What is the Internet doing to our brains?

Is the Internet changing how we think?

The internet is an interesting modern luxury we have today. Decades ago the laptop and internet were not available. So how did people or student find their information? They went to the library, they had sets of encyclopedias that were bought oftentimes from door to door salesmen. We have all the information we could possibly need at the edge of our fingers. I see this as both a good and a bad thing.

On one end i can see how we are not using our mind to our fullest potential, in the sense of depending on electronic devices to do the hard thinking for us. We grab a calculator and have it solve our problems, we look up material on the internet and less and less seek out books for our answers. We have less attention spans accroding to the YouTube video "What the Internet is Doing to our brains." We are storing less learned material in our long term memory. We can have a really good idea, the 'king' of ideas and not follow through on the idea because of attetion being divereted to some sort of media distraction.

On the postive end, i believe the internet is changing our thinking because we have more access to material. We can communite with people on other ends of the world. We have more educational material at our disposal and allows us to learn more. We can now carry textbooks on a handheld devices and eliminate the heavy burden of carrying a physical book. The internet does take away the thinking extensively but it give us the ability to learn from other people, or experts in the particular field.

So the internet is changing how we think, for both the good and the bad, but we just have to teach ourselves how to control our attention and not let technology control our minds. Our phones and social media will be there hours later and that Snapchat will be there a couple hours later.
